Internships

Throughout 2025, I have completed three internships alongside my university studies, and have all provided me with valuable real-world experience directly relevant to my field.

Nine News

During my one-week internship at Nine News Melbourne, I gained invaluable insight into the fast-paced world of broadcast journalism. I shadowed reporters in the newsroom and on location, contributing to a range of tasks including scriptwriting under deadline, creating news packages, and observing editorial meetings.

This hands-on experience strengthened my storytelling, research, and on-camera skills, while broadening my editorial perspective. It confirmed my passion for broadcast news and deepened my drive to contribute to impactful, accurate journalism.

SYN Radio

As part of a collaborative internship project with SYN Media, I co-created and presented a one-hour live radio show that focused on Melbourne’s RISING Festival, celebrating the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene. Over six weeks, I worked closely with my co-host to develop engaging original content tailored for a live audience.

Our show was built from the ground up, beginning as a rough script and evolving into a fully structured program. Together, we crafted a detailed run sheet, curated music selections to complement our segments, operated the radio panel live on air, and sourced interviews with local artists involved in the festival.

Throughout the project, I gained hands-on experience in live broadcasting, scriptwriting, interview preparation, panel operation, and audio production. It significantly boosted my confidence in both the technical and creative aspects of radio journalism.

ABC Radio Melbourne

I underwent a two week internship at ABC Radio Melbourne, where I gained valuable experience in radio production and script writing. I worked on their afternoon and evening drive programs where I sourced and contacted talent, conducted interviews and wrote scripts under deadlines.

I learnt a range of production skills such as screening calls as they came through from listeners before placing them on air. The fast paced nature of a radio show was challenging, but rewarding as it taught me the importance of time management and team work to produce a well rounded program.

Throughout my two weeks, I had the opportunity to go live on air with the afternoon show hosts. This broadened my on air presence and built my confidence to speak confidently in live programs. Overall it allowed me to explore the world of radio and gain skills that I will bring forward in my career.
